Lea Mai (pronounced ‘lair my’) is Carolyn’s private practice where she offers supervision,
coaching and consulting services. Lea Mai in Tongan means ‘to talk with/to me; to speak/converse’
and is representative of Carolyn’s Pasifika ancestry. As a skilled supervisor and supervision trainer,
Carolyn has been supervising since 1998; providing supervision across a range of healthcare professions.
Her belief and passion for supervision comes from seeing the power of the supervision process guide
individuals to critically reflect on, vision, and move towards ‘who they want to be’,
‘where they want to go’ in the pursuit of ‘being at their best’.
As an occupational therapist with over 38 years’ experience, Carolyn’s clinical speciality is in neurodevelopmental paediatrics, teaching both nationally and internationally in the field. She also holds grounded experience in professional governance, leadership and strategic thinking. Her Masters research with AUT explored the culture of therapists working within the context of inclusive education in Aotearoa New Zealand. Her current doctorate research with AUT is a critical discourse study of supervision discourses at play for occupational therapy supervision in the Aotearoa New Zealand healthcare context. Carolyn is also a founding partner of Chameleon Courses, an initiative which focuses on offering high calibre learning opportunities and experiences for occupational therapists and other health professionals.
